Freelancer for a day: the renovation of a large 12-bedroom house in the Beaujolais region, by Lysiane

Every month, decoclico invites a "freelancer for a day" to write an article on a theme of his/her choice!

This month, it's Lysiane, aka @lysiane_maison.marcel on Instagram, a decorating enthusiast and founder of Maison Marcel, an artisan hairdresser and concept store, who took part in the game, and tells us about her incredible house currently being renovated.

We've given her the keys to the Magazine, so we'll let you discover her story!

We've been living in Lyon for many years, buying, renovating and selling apartments. Pregnant with my little girl Colette, we felt the need for more space and started looking at properties outside Lyon. June 2016, scheduled visit to the Beaujolais region, it's raining and gray outside Lyon. My husband goes alone, as I'm bedridden. On his return, he announces that the atmosphere is great, but that we weren't thinking of opening a boarding school. The house has 12 rooms. We gave up. And then, despite several visits, we couldn't find anything. The two of us decided to go back and visit this big, beautiful house.

Once again, there's a sense of vacation and well-being on site. The house has been uninhabited for a long time and is still in its original state, but it's healthy, the framework is impeccable and the materials are of the highest quality: woodwork, cement tiles, parquet flooring, etc. We moved in in October

We moved in in October, I was literally moved with the sofa, Colette arrived at the end of November to a huge building site where the kitchen changed rooms three times and the heating broke down twice (thanks to our friends for welcoming us in the middle of the night).

In the end, we had to replace the boiler and some of the window frames, because every time there was a storm, it flooded.

The kitchen

The only room to be completely redone is the kitchen. The old kitchen and library are linked to create direct access to the garden. Originally non-existent. We incorporated a glass roof between the hallway and this same kitchen to make it even brighter and more pleasant, and reopened two old windows to the north

The colors are predominantly white and black, with a touch of beige-pink and zelliges made to order in the Beaujolais region. We create a toilet on the first floor, find a place for it under the stairs (originally a cupboard) and create the drains from the outside.

The living room

The two large living rooms are designed to highlight the woodwork with different shades of paint.

Having lived for a long time in dark Lyonnais apartments, and having been forced to paint the walls only white to bring in light, I was dreaming of a black wall.

So I'm more than delighted with this big black wall in the living room!

Children's corner

Upstairs, the children's corner naturally stands out from the rest, with three steps separating the old and new parts of the house. The children's area includes three bedrooms, a playroom and a bathroom.

We opted for losb in this room of water, floor and cabinet, a large island bathtub for the three kids and a decolier basin complete this small but pleasant bathroom. Each child chose the color of his or her room and the essential decorative elements of their world. The whole space has been completely redone.

The bedroom

On the same level, our bedroom and a bathroom are still in their original state, due to a lack of time and budget to redo these rooms. But they're still very much on my mind, because I've already got all the plans in my head.

The work

There's still one floor to go, with a lot of work to be done. I'm moving forward slowly, and when I manage to free up a bit of time, I take over the walls and repaint these rooms, which are mainly used as bedrooms for our friends and family. I created a library and repainted one of the bedrooms.

I recently started work on my future office, where I'll be able to work and store all the products I sell in my concept store, Maison Marcel. I hope to finish it soon! Doing the work ourselves, we're making slow progress as time and finances permit. There's still a lot of work to be done in the house, but I'm not afraid of it.

I love creating, designing a space, shaping and decorating it. Work has never scared me, nor my husband, who's always willing to follow my desires and whims, and who luckily knows how to do everything #bestpartner. I have absolutely no regrets about moving to this new life in the country & I savor every day how lucky we are.

This renovation has taken us time and energy, and still does, but it brings us together, brings us together, is like us, and calls for others. The satisfaction of the result is always present, almost contemplative, to the point of wanting to do it all over again.
